Rebels Place 11 On Academic All-MWC Team
UNLV placed 11 members of the men's swimming and diving team on the 2008 Spring Academic All-Mountain West Conference team. To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MWC team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team. [ + ] Four UNLV athletes have been voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII University Division At-Large Teams as selected by sports information directors, it was announced on Thursday. Swimmer Johan Claar was named to the men's first team for the second straight year, while Matt Kinsinger of the men's golf team was a second team selection. Kim Bonney of the women's swimming team earned her third career academic all-district honor, as she was named to the first team for the first time, while Elena Gantcheva of the women's tennis team was a second team selection. [ + ] The UNLV men's swimming team saw a total of two current swimmers and one alumni qualify over the past four days for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, after the final day of competition ended at the Canadian Olympic Trials on Sunday in Montreal.
